DIBP - A speciality plasticiser
An information resource on the
plasticiser diisobutyl phthalate (DIBP)
CAS Number 84-69-5
EINECS Number 201-553-2
Diisobutyl phthalate (DIBP) is a specialist plasticiser
often used in combination with other high molecular weight
phthalates.
It is a fast fusing plasticiser which by itself it is too
volatile for PVC applications. It is frequently used as a gelling
aid in combination with other plasticisers.
A plasticiser for nitrocellulose, cellulose ether, and
polyacrylate and polyacetate dispersions. DIBP is a nearly
colourless, clear and practically anhydrous liquid with a hardly
noticeable odour. It is soluble in the usual organic solvents and
is miscible and compatible with all of the monomeric plasticisers
commonly used in PVC. DIBP is almost insoluble in water.
Diisobutyl phthalate (DIBP) has very similar application
properties to Di-n-butyl phthalate (DBP) and may therefore be used
to substitute for DBP in most, if not all, of its applications.
These range from the plasticisation of PVC to the production of
paints, printing inks and adhesives.
